Odisha was known as Kalinga in the ancient days. The British took over in 1803. Orissa was made into a separate province in 1936; and in 1949 the princely state of Orissa were merged with the state of Orissa and became statehood on 15/8/1947.

Persecution of Christians was prevalent in Odisha in which many Christians were tortured to death in recent past. The Executive Board resolved to start the work in this state from 2008 and on January 01, 2012 it handed over to the General Missions Department (Vide Ex. Bd. Res. No. 11, dt April 13-18, 2011). As the General Missions Conference passed a resolution (vide Gen. Conf. Res. No 1 of 19/4/2013) to open Odisha Missions Field, this Mission Field was opened on 17th November 2013 (vide GMB Res No. 19 of Dt. 19/4/13).
