Imphal District was not declared a district at first. On February 7, 1987 it was established as Manipur Mission Field under the governance of Chandel District (Formerly called “East Manipur District”). The General Conference in the year 2000 agreed to declare Manipur Mission Field to district for the development of the church. On September 3, 2000 Rev.H.Vankunga, the then General Superintendent grandly inaugurated the new Imphal District. All the Executive members were attending the occasion.
