When perplexity due to politics arised in 1966 in Mizoram, many mizo, who worked under Assam Police Department were transferred to several districts in Assam State. Among them were numbers of UPC members and they were posted in Shillong and Guwahati. Rev.Lerthansung visited Assam State capital, Shillong in 1967 and by the guidance and grace of God, he baptized twelve (12) people at Umpling river in the name of Jesus Christ and continued visiting UPC members in different districts in the state of Assam.

After reaching Shillong, Rev.Lerthansung, Rev.J.Damhuala and Bro.Muana had a meeting with Rev.Harry Scism. They all agreed to form District headquarters at Assam capital and the district was named “Assam Central District”. On May 3, 1968, new Assam Central District was established with Rev.Lerthansung, the then Cachar District Pastor as the District Pastor.

Shillong Church Board were appointed by Rev.Lerthansung as below :

The first District Conference :

It was held on February 20, 1970 at Pinewood Hotel, Shillong. Representatives were :

  • Rev. K.L.Hnuna.
  • Sis. Darchawngi.

Changing District Name :

New Meghalaya State was formed in 1972 and Shillong was no longer state capital of Assam. A General Conference was held in 1972 and according to resolution no.15, the name “Assam Central District” was changed to “Central District”.
